Why is Sleep Important?
Benefits of Sleep

Sleep Deprivation is Serious!

So why is sleep important?

Our bodies were designed to recover and get refreshed while we sleep.

And sleep has healing effects and other benefits, as well.

Too often we minimize the importance of sleep and a good night's rest.

Start sleeping soundly tonight...

However, restful sleep can mean the difference between success and failure, between your being outgoing or introverted, and between illness and health…

Why is Sleep Important?
Benefits of Uninterrupted Sleep

Many aspects about sleep remain a mystery. Scientists really don’t know everything there is to know…about sleep.

We know that everyone in the world requires some sleep each day. And we know that, if you don’t sleep for several days in a row, your mind and body suffer.

Here are some of sleep benefits that we know:

  • Energy - When you are sleepy and tired, your body runs out of energy—just like a battery that is getting “low”. Your body gets recharged with energy when you get a good night’s sleep.

  • Restoration and Healing - If you have ever pulled a muscle or used a muscle that has been inactive, you have caused little injuries in your unused muscle. Overnight, your body, during sleep, goes to work to repair those little injuries. Healing hormones are released during sleep.

And, if you are ill, your body works hard to make you well during sleep. That is why, when you are sick and take a nap, you feel better when you awaken from your sleep.

  • Concentration - We don’t understand why, but we do know that, after a good night’s sleep, you are able to concentrate much better. That is why, doing an all nighter to study for an exam the next day, or practicing a speech all night the day before you deliver it—are bad ideas. You will do much better if you get a good night’s sleep…

  • Immunity to Disease - This is another mystery, but our bodies are more immune to disease and becoming ill when we sleep well. In experiments, when rats and dogs were denied sleep, they died. So it is clear that we NEED sleep.

  • Decision Making - After good sleep, we make better and quicker decisions. Our thinking skills are sharper. Decision making can affect your performance at work, your relationships and your home life.

  • Growth and Development - Growth hormone is released during sleep. Abused children do not grow well, and some experts believe that this is because they are afraid to sleep or they wake too often to have sufficient deep sleep. When abused children are in a safe environment, they grow (and sleep) normally.

  • Psychological Benefits of Sleep - Scientists believe that we deal with repressed emotions (or emotions that we stuff inside) during sleep. Dealing with jealousy, anger or grief during sleep and dreams can help us cope—and avoid having those emotional issues turn into physical problems like high blood pressure, headaches and stomach ulcers.

  • Wellbeing - Not the least important, we feel better after a good rest. Our outlook on life is far more positive when we are rested, and the world just feels like a better place.

Why is sleep important? Sleep is important in many ways. In general, it helps us get our lives back on track—physically, mentally and emotionally.

Sleep helps keep our bodies functioning at their best and help us heal.

Sleep helps us feel better about ourselves and about the world. And it helps us feel confident and perform at our highest levels.
