What is a Headache?
What is a headache? While almost everyone suffers from headaches occasionally, different types of headaches affect people in different ways. Knowing what you are experiencing, can help with the solution. In fact, one in seven Americans suffer from headaches that are so severe that they have to totally cease or dramatically cut down on their daily activities. And, to make matters even more confusing, each person experiences their headache symptoms uniquely—there is not "one size fits all" headache!
However, in order to determine how to get headache relief, you need to pay attention to your symptoms and find out what kind of headaches you get…

There is no question in your mind about what a headache is, if you have one!

All Types of Headaches Are Not the Same Headaches are not a disease—they are a symptom of something else. And that "something else" can be physical or psychological. But don’t think that a headache that is emotional hurts less or is all in your head (no pun intended). A headache with psychological causes can be every bit as severe as one with physical causes. And you have to treat both kinds with equal fervor. With headaches, you need to heal mind, body and spirit. If you neglect doing this and try to rely on pills and quick fixes, you will be unsuccessful.
How Serious are Headaches?Physical based headaches can be very serious, a symptom of a potentially life threatening disease like cancer. Or you can experience tension headaches caused by muscle tension, or headaches caused by menopause, menses, pneumonia, low blood sugar, stroke, drinking too much, a head injury or by sinus infections. Psychological headaches can be caused by stress, depression, anxiety or other emotional issues. Because you treat different kinds of headaches differently to get relief, it’s important that you determine exactly what causes your headaches, and why you are getting them. Your doctor can help you with this, and, once you have this important information, you and your doctor can proceed with treatment. Knowing the underlying condition is key to treating your headaches. Most importantly, your job is to pay attention to your symptoms in order to learn exactly why your headaches are occurring! Knowing what is a headache and what your particular symptoms are, can be the first step in helping you rid yourself of debilitating pain permanently!
