Time Management

Reduce Stress with Time Management!

During our busy we lives we forget to balance our lifestyle. Our work, career, family responsibilities, household duties or studies have a higher percentage of our time compared to a social life, hobbies, relaxation or down time.

You can take control of your life with time management by managing your activities so they are more balanced and you experience less stress.

When you have a balanced day-to-day routine you gain confidence that you can easily cruise through your daily activities and still have time to enjoy the simple things in life. No pressure = No Stress

When you manage your time you reduce long-term stress and avoid the detrimental stress symptoms that follow.

Time management technique: The best way I find to balance out my daily activities is by drawing a circle, and like a pie carve it into the percentages you might use for work, family, social life, relaxation, etc etc.

Consider the hours in the day:

Approximately 15 hours of awake time

8 hours work

1/2 travelling to work

= 6 hours left for family, social life, relaxation, exercise, etc.

Now that might seem nearly impossible, but have a look at it on a weekly basis.

1st – What are your priorities? What is absolutely necessary to get down, and what can be put aside? Everyone will have different priorities. If you find you are “stressed” then one of your priorities might mean getting a 20 minute meditation in before work. A priority could mean writing yourself a note so you’ll remember to pay the bills! Keep in mind what is important to you… and remember to keep it all in balance!

Plan your week so that you fit in exercise regularly (4-5 days a week for 20-40 minutes a day).

It’s also important to have some down time such as relaxation, meditation or just simply reading a book. Give your body time to relax and heal itself.

Laughter is Good Medicine!

If you have a family, plan some special family time. Your kids will certainly appreciate it!

And then your social life should have a special spot during your week or weeks. This can mean going to a movie or having a coffee with a friend, or joining a salsa class every Wednesday evening.

Make sure you have plenty of sleep time!

And time to organise a healthy diet!

Exercise is a great stress reliever!

Sometimes planning ahead is our lifeline in a hectic lifestyle!

Take into consideration your environment, attitudes and life changes that may be affect your ability to cope with stress.

Use your time management skills effectively.

If in doubt... seek a professional's help!

Counselling is a great idea that will show you how your beliefs, attitudes and behaviours can be altered to help you handle situations easier and cope with stress.
