How to Stop Drinking Alcohol

Want to stop drinking alcohol? The road to abstinence is not easy. But, with these tips on how to stop drinking alcohol, it will be easier for you to make the change.

Whether you are a regular at the wild college parties on campus or you quietly drink a six pack by yourself each night, you may have fallen into the trap of alcohol abuse.

Alcohol abuse is heavy drinking, where your drinking leads to problems—physical, mental or emotional.

On the other hand, alcohol addiction is a physical addiction or need to drink more and more. With addiction, the alcohol takes first place in your life—over family, friends, job, school and even your physical and mental health.

Stop Binge Drinking and Self Abuse

Any habit can be hard to break, but drinking has to be one of the most difficult. People drinking alcohol are faced with the temptation of having another drink, each and every day—at work, at school and to relax, at the end of the day.

Here are some tips to help make it easier to stop drinking:

  • Work only on your drinking - That may sound simple, but, all too often, we try to do too many things at once. You owe it to yourself to succeed at this. Concentrate on this one life change before you try to change something else about yourself.
  • Give it 30 days - You can make it, if you give yourself a reasonable goal. Steve Pavlini popularized the idea of the 30 Day Trial. If you can change your behavior for 30 days, it will become a habit. And if you focus on only one habit, you are much more likely to be successful.

  • Change your thoughts - Part of the reason that people drink too much, is that they rely on automatic thinking. And, if you are drinking more than you should, you need to change that thinking. When you change your subconscious thoughts about alcohol, you can literally change your behaviors, quickly—and they will be permanent changes.

  • Hypnotherapy to stop drinking - Using hypnosis is a proven way of changing the alcohol habit. It is an easy way to change your subconscious thoughts so that you can easily refuse a drink, and you won’t have those familiar cravings!

These hypnosis programs will zero in on exactly what you need, depending on your situation:

  • Stick with your program. - No matter what steps you decide to take, you need to be consistent in your approach—and you need to stick with it! For example, a hypnosis program, downloaded onto your computer doesn’t do you a bit of good, unless you listen to it regularly!

  • Enlist support. - When you drink too much, it’s easy to alienate your friends and family. But, it’s important to find someone who will help you with your battle against alcohol. If you ask, I think you’ll be surprised to find that others will support your efforts.

If you want to stop drinking alcohol, you certainly can. It will take some effort on your part, but you will find that it is possible to cut down on your drinking or stop drinking entirely.
