The signs of stress, if they become chronic, can lead to serious stress related illnesses, inability to function at your best, and anxiety and depression. Here are some tips to help with stress.

Although stress is good for your body considering that it helps you rise to the challenges ahead of you, chronic stress is something that you should free yourself from.

A prolonged stress experience can suppress your immune system, making you more vulnerable to diseases and illnesses like high blood pressure, heart diseases, ulcers, migraines, and cancer.

Moreover, being overly stressed makes it difficult for you to become more productive. Thus, every task laid in front of you will feel like a huge struggle.

Some signs of stress that you may notice for yourself include:

  1. Stop and rest.

    Long-term stressful situations can cause a lasting low-level stress on your body.

    Even in the absence of a known trigger, your nervous system continues to sense a lingering pressure that will render it unable to stop pumping out excess stress hormones. This can leave your body depleted of its reserved energy.

    To address this, it is important that you stop what you are doing and take some rest.

    Rest is necessary to help your body ease itself from all the pressures it has just encountered. It serves to rejuvenate all the cells of your body, making them ready to resume the task you have left behind.

    If you are in your office and cannot take a long hour of sleep, take a power nap during your break instead. Close your eyes for at least 15 minutes and leave all your worries on your desk.

  2. Grab a chocolate bar.

    Although you should try to practice a healthy coping strategy to relieve yourself from stress, there is one coping strategy that can be very addictive but could definitely help ease your worries. And that is chocolate.

    When you experience the signs of stress, it is OK to indulge in the sinful pleasure that chocolate has to offer. Chocolate, particularly dark chocolate, proves to have health benefits according to research studies. Dark chocolate, which has a high percentage of cocoa, stimulates the production of your endorphins.

    Endorphins are "feel-good hormones" that you, in a state of distress and pressure, definitely need. Aside from that, chocolate also helps in the secretion of serotonin, a natural anti-depressant that helps fight off stress, symptoms of anxiety, and depression.

    Even if chocolate is not a very proactive coping mechanism and has the hazard of putting your fitness goals into the bin, its delicious state and added health benefits trumps tasteless meditation and other stress-reducing exercises. But remember, too much of everything is bad. Be conscious and eat in moderation.

  3. Take a hike.

    Coping with stress does not mean to be boring. Although going to a therapy class helps, there are other ways to cope. One non-boring way to cope is through hiking.

    Hiking is a very good way to deal with the signs of stress. As they say, walking is the world’s best form of exercise. By hiking into the woods, you can exercise not only your body but also your mind. Hiking utilizes the entire body in the activity. It challenges the muscles as well as the heart to become stronger as you continue to maneuver over and under land grade obstacles.

    Hiking also provides a range of beautiful sceneries and the chance for a mind-clearing solitude that you need. Moreover, getting away from the city for a while is a much more enjoyable experience than jogging through a busy park and noisy streets. In the country, you get to fill your lungs with cleaner air and purer oxygen.

Learning and practicing these easy, stress-busting techniques will help you handle your stress better. When another difficult and demanding situation comes up, you will be more prepared to face and challenge them. You just have to remember these and motivate yourself into positive action to relieve yourself of the stress and anxiety trapped within you.
