There are a number of easy relaxation exercises that will help you to achieve a centered calmness. Here are some relaxation techniques that you may want to pursue:

  • Progressive relaxation - learn to relax your muscles, at will.

  • Meditation - Choose from various forms of meditation. Each has a slightly different twist, but they do achieve similar results - calmness and focus. Meditation is even used in some countries for healing.

  • The art of mindfulness meditation is similar to Zen meditation. This relaxation technique has recently become very popular.

  • Yoga - the movements and meditation of yoga have a very calming effect on both the mind and the body. There are many styles of yoga, with each one putting emphasis on posture and breathing techniques.

  • Tai Chi - reduces stress and comes from China, and has many health benefits including increasing balance, strengthening the mind with concentration, stretching and strengthening the muscles, and bringing peace of mind.

In addition, there are a number of other ways to approach stress reduction. Here are some stress reduction tools that have proven to be effective:

  • Hobbies reduce stress - Hobbies can be very relaxing, and they add a dimension of fun to your life! Sometimes all we need to feel more relaxed--is to laugh and enjoy an activity that is fun.

  • Relaxation Music - The right music can be very calming and enjoyable.

  • Journalling - Writing a journal is a cathartic activity. It helps to “get things out” and is a great way to foster reflection. When you journal, you become more in touch with your emotions and feelings.

  • Massage - Massage is one of the relaxation techniques, and stress is quickly relieved by massage. If you can’t find the time to get a regular massage, why not consider getting one of the wonderful massage chairs on the market? They’re almost as good as a good masseur.

  • Aromatherapy - burning essential oils and candles can be very calming. Try this relaxation technique--while you soak in the bathtub!


As you can see, there are a number of very effective relaxation techniques and stress reduction tools available to you. Choose the relaxation tools that you think will work best for you, and give it a try.
