Reiki Theory

Reiki theory - Reiki is a name for one of the many healing practices in Japan in the early 20th century. Mikao Usui taught his method of healing which eventually travelled to the Western world. Sensei Usui is known as the founder of Reiki. His Reiki hand positions are known throughout the Reiki schools.

Reiki theory believes that there is a universal energy which touches and links to us all. Reiki teachings say that anyone can be ‘attuned’ to this energy. This attunement opens up the energy channels to allow the universal energy to flow through our bodies healing ourselves and others.

Free flowing universal energy removes blockages and gives the body energy to heal itself. Chi Gong, Tai Chi and acupuncture theories believe similarly.

When Reiki traveled to the Western society there became many different schools of Reiki. Regardless of the differences, each one offers different levels of training which prepares an individual to understand and work with the Reiki energy.

Reiki is usually performed by using the hands, allowing the universal energy to flow through the crown chakra and emanating outwards through the palms of the hands. Some people believe that intention and focus is important while practicing Reiki, while others believe the Reiki energy will naturally go where it is needed.

Reiki theory and its teachings has different levels in which an individual is able to learn different dimensions of Reiki and how to work with the energies. It suggests that when a person is more used to the Reiki energies and allowing it to flow through them, they can move onto the next level whereby they can perform long distance healings. These long distance healings are performed without the limitations of time and space, as the universal energy is connected to us all. Also, techniques are taught so that the Reiki practitioner can send energy to a specific point in time in the past or future.

Reiki is known for its relaxing and rejuvenating affects. When you are given Reiki you feel as though you are in a meditative state and very relaxed. Reiki slows your thoughts down and allows you to feel peace of mind. This relaxed state is a natural state in which the body is able to focus healing areas in need. In this way a Reiki session is similar to doing a meditation.
