Many Different Reiki Schools

There are as many different schools of Reiki as there are Reiki masters. I recently had a look on the internet and found an overwhelming number of different styles of Reiki – Karuna, Seichem, Tanaki, Dragon, Dorje, Authentic, Ascension, Angel Touch, Ni Kawa, Rainbow, Violet Flame – and the list went on and on.

In the different schools of Reiki every Reiki teacher puts their own inspiration into the course one way or another. Some teachers add angel healings, crystals, extra symbols, etc to their teachings.

Several Reiki teachers charge $10,000 for a master attunement while others are happy to do an exchange of services or believe that karma will return the service to them. Prices vary a lot between Reiki schools but so does the belief about symbols.

There are Reiki masters who teach the idea that the Reiki symbols are sacred and that you must not write them down on paper, but instead memorise them. Then these sacred symbols began appearing in books and now you can find the symbols on the internet. Recently discovered truths about Usui’s teaching have taught us that the symbols are not the main focus. In fact, Usui used Kotodama, the spirit sound, to focus on the essence of Reiki. The symbols and sounds are tools that help you concentrate on the healing energies. They do not have the healing energies ‘within’ them and are not meant to be worshipped as previously thought. They simply bring the powerful Reiki Ray more clearly in your mind which enhances the healing ability. It is the intention that makes the Reiki energy flow through. Using the symbols and kotodama our intention is intensified.

Recently, we have learned that the original Usui hands on healing method focused more on spiritual development and intuition. As this feels right to many practitioners and teachers more schools are changing their structure of teaching.

All forms of Reiki use the same energy source. The name Reiki itself means “Universal Energy”.

Different Reiki schools. When choosing from a variety Reiki schools consider how you feel about the teacher and the students you meet from that school. If you feel welcomed, are having fun and are happy about what you are learning then the school is enhancing your life. If you intuitively feel a negative vibe or notice that things just are not going smoothly for you to get to class then maybe the timing or school itself it not right for you. If you have any doubts then do some research and learn more about the different Reiki schools, the way they teach, the prices they are charging and weigh up your options.
