Most Reiki people are familiar with the Western style techniques, passed down our Reiki lineage from Takata, for working with the Reiki energy. The chakra hand positions were passed down to me by my first Reiki Master, down from her Reiki Master, etc, and seem to be the most popular hand positions that are taught in Reiki Level 1 as they are easy to learn and allow each individual to use the Reiki energy with simple hand positions to start off with.

By going down your client’s chakra points with Reiki you channel the higher vibrations which assist their bodies to heal.

Usui's Original Hand Positions

Usui's Original Hand Positions:

Sensei Usui taught personal mastery to his students. His teachings varied according to each individual’s beliefs, attitudes and abilities. The knowledge he passed on was based on spirituality and personal empowerment.

Sensei’s original hand positions differ from Western style hand positions. Usui first healed the head and then moved to other positions on the body if necessary.

Many Japanese spiritual healing methods at that time were mainly focusing on healing the head first.

Sensei Usui suggested that the following 5 positions are used for 30 minutes in total, then, other required positions are used if further healing is needed.

(1) Forehead top (the line where your hair starts to grow)
(2) Both sides of your head at the same time
(3) Back of your head and forehead
(4) Each side of the neck.
(5) Top of your head (crown).

The Reiki hand positions taught by the Western style Reiki are based on the chakras. This is interesting because Reiki is from Japan, but the concept of chakras originated in India.

The Reiki hand positions that Mikao Usui used, were based on the belief that most of our ailments and dis-eases begin with our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes.

Usui’s spiritual teachings are Buddhist in origin and include some very ancient Shinto energy practices. His teachings taught students how to lead a proper life with health and happiness.
