Progressive Muscular Relaxation Meditation: It's a basic technique that is easy to do and can be done anywhere. As you focus on particular muscle groups one at a time you achieve a state of deep relaxation. How do you do it? Why not try it now? Choose a particular muscle group that you feel tight. Clench them tighter and hold them tight for a few seconds and then relax them. Each time you tighten and release you'll become aware of how tight your muscles were and your stress levels. Each time you clench and release your muscles they will relax more. Tip: as you tighten you muscles take a big breath in, as you relax your muscles breath a huge sigh out. You can do this with just one set of muscles while standing in a bank line... for example, while waiting clench your calf muscles and release them. Imagine all the tension leaving your body as you relax them. Or take some time out in a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Make yourself comfortable and go through your whole body tightening and relaxing all your muscle groups. After completing each one do your whole body at once. Tip: Start either from the top or bottom of your body to make it easier to remember what group of muscles to do next. Slowly do all your muscle groups and achieve a state of relaxation where your tension melts away.Let's go through the muscle groups .... Start by clenching your feet and release. Then move to your calves, clench and release. Then your thighs. Your stomach. Your buttocks. Your arms. Your hands. Your jaw. Your neck. Your scalp. Your face muscles. Clench, release. Tighten, set free. Using this basic meditation you will feel your whole body relax one muscle group at a time!
