Healthy Eating

The Right Nutrients for Wellness

Healthy Eating: Sufficient nutrients are required by our bodies to provide energy so that we are able to cope with daily stressors. Our body needs fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and water to function optimally.

Many people respond to stress by indulging in fatty or sugary foods - "comfort foods". Eating unhealthy foods and overeating adds to the stress levels of our body.

"Let food be your medicine, and let medicine be your food."

Eat foods that enhance your health, avoid foods that increase the toxins in your body. Healthy eating and nutrition gives our bodies fuel to handle day-to-day life stressors. What we eat affects our health and wellbeing.

In today’s society our bodies age prematurely due to environmental impacts such as pollutants and chemicals, as well as lifestyle and eating choices, which are detrimental to our bodies.

There are many different diets and suggestions about proper eating. However, it is well known that are bodies need a variety of nutrients including proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates to keep it healthy.

Consider the basics:

- Everything in moderation
- Maintain a healthy weight for your body size
- Eat a variety of foods for different nutrients
- Avoid too much sugar and wheat
- Use fresh foods as much as possible

How does stress affect health?

Stress affects our body’s ability to absorb nutrients.

If you are suffering from chronic prolonged stress your body is continuously in a state of ‘fight or flight’ and the digestive system is not functioning properly.

Our body is unable to soak up the required minerals for a healthy immune system functioning. People who are experiencing chronic stress have been shown to be deficient of magnesium, chromium, copper, iron and zinc – even though they ate a healthy diet. Without these minerals their immune system suffered and they became more vulnerable to illness and disease.

In a healthy stress-free individual free radicals (environmental pollutants that destroy various parts of cells) are removed (metabolized) from the body by beta-carotene and vitamin C & E.

If we are under stress our bodies cannot absorb these vitamins and the free radicals are free to destroy cells - which have been linked to cancer and heart disease.
