The Effect of Stress on Health

How Does Stress Affect Health?

The effect of stress on health can be surprising.

Unfortunately, stress related illness can sneak up on you without warning.

Getting stress and anxiety under control can be crucial to your overall health and well being!

Did you know that the effects of stress on health is different from person to person?

Prolonged stress or chronic stress affects your overall health, but, for each individual the health risks are just a little different.

For example, one person may be prone to cancer, another to stomach ulcers and still a third to heart disease. If each of these people experiences chronic stress, he may become ill--but in a different way from each of the others!

In fact, it isn’t how much stress you have that determines whether you will have a stress induced illness. It’s how you handle the stress that you have that makes the difference!

Stress IS a personal thing.

Everyone has their own beliefs, attitudes and thoughts-- and they handle stressful situations, based on their own mental programming.

These pre-programmed thoughts create individual feelings that provoke reactions to situations.

What one person views as stressful, might be considered as a healthy challenge by another.

Can the Effects of Stress on Health
Be Avoided?

Stress does not have to take its toll on your health and quality of life!

The first step toward getting rid of negative stress is become aware of your thoughts and how they are affecting your stress levels and well-being.

Cognitive therapy or behavior modification is a simple, yet very powerful technique that you can use to replace old, dysfunctional thoughts with new, empowering ones.

To do that, you need to first become aware of what you think--during each stressful situation.

Dr. Randy Gilchrist, known for his work on managing stress and anxiety, and for helping people get rid of addictions, has developed a very effective program for managing stress and anxiety.
