I'm sure everyone has their own idea what a stress free work environment is!

My ideal work environment would be:

Working on my laptop within walking distance to a glorious beach, or overlooking a luscious rainforest backyard with abundant wildlife (but with no snakes!).

YOUR JOB:

Whether you are in a job or looking for a job or career its important to consider many aspects to describe a stress free work environment.

Here is a list of things for you to consider when describing a work environment that is less stressful and perfect for you. There are many more aspects to consider, but it will get you started on the right track.

Go through the list and think about what your major stressors are in work and what you would prefer instead:

1st - Consider the physical environment

In your job consider whether you have enough space to do your job in comfort and safety. Is it an efficient set-up or do you have to go up three stories to do photocopying?

What about privacy? Do you feel stuffed next to a person you dislike? Or is your boss always peering over your shoulder? What would you prefer in regards to privacy?

Now consider noise levels and lighting and temperature.

And the equipment you use every day.

2nd - Organisation/Business

Do you prefer working for a large business or a small one?

If you prefer a large organisation consider the management procedures. Its much easier if you have a comfortable size workload for the hours you are working! Would you like to have a say in the working procedures or prefer strict guidelines?

3rd - Career Development

A secure job makes a person feel happier and less stressed. What about being promoted? Or do you do too much work for your job status? Does your job offer you training to improve your abilities?

Remember, the idea here is to describe stress free work environment. What do you require in your job to feel at ease and happy and stress free?

4th - Social Relationships

Wouldn't it be a dream job to have aaaalll your close friends working with you! Well, what's your current job like?

Particular social issues include: sexual harassment, racial comments, unfriendly criticisms.
