Can Stress Cause Hives?
Can stress cause hives? If you have had chronic hives, with no known physical reason for the rash, you may need to look closer at the amount of stress and anxiety in your life!Of course there are many reasons for hives, including reactions to medicines, allergic reactions to foods, certain diseases like lupus or syphilis, or even reactions to bee stings. The truth is that, most of the time, the actual cause of your hives is not easy to determine. So what is the relationship between hives and stress?
To discover why you can have a physical problem like hives, when you are under stress, we need to explore the mind-body connection and how our emotions relate to our bodies…

High stress levels can cause hives.
Chronic Hives and StressYou’ve heard about the Fight or Flight reaction. Whether you are in a physical crisis (poisonous snake 2 feet in front of you) or an emotional crisis (argument with your spouse), your body reacts the same way.- Alarm - You sense a threat (physical or emotional). Your body goes into Fight or Flight response. Your heart beats faster, blood pressure rises, perspiration increases, etc. If the threat does not go away (chronic stress, like a job that you hate), your body responds with headaches, stomach upsets, tight muscles, and sometimes hives.
- Resistance - Your body is completely mobilized for fighting or running. If new stressors are added, your immune system can be weakened. The stressors don’t have to be large (like a death in the family or a divorce). Little things can add up over time.
- Exhaustion - Your mind and body just get tired, and your immune system gives in to disease or injury. In extreme situations (lost in the wilderness in cold temperatures), the stressors can lead to death.
Hives often develop when a person is under a lot of stress. Often the doctor is not certain of the exact causes of hives.
Treatment of HivesTraditional treatments often include messy creams that require you to strip and apply the creams several times a day. Or medications with nasty side effects. Neither approach gets to the root of the problem…The good news is that, you can treat your hives and get permanent relief, using hypnosis. In recent years, scientists have found that we can heal our bodies, by changing our subconscious thoughts. When you get hives, your body has a non-specific immune response, and, fortunately, we can influence the health of our immune system by changing our thoughts, beliefs and the way we respond to situations.
