Defining anxiety:
Anxiety is characterized by constant intense emotions of fear and worry about every day life events. It is the tense anticipation of an event that is perceived to be threatening. Anxiety is a response to a danger or threat. Its purpose is to protect you from harm, although in today's society anxiety is detrimental to our health. People with an anxiety disorder tend to expect the worst and can’t stop worrying. Every moment of their lives remains in a state of fear, worry and dread. If this state of heightened intense emotions continues to worse it can interfere with daily functioning.
Anxiety affects your health and well-being in many ways. During anxiety or a panic attack the sympathetic nervous system increases our heartbeat rate, speeds up the blood flow throughout the body, and makes sure that areas of the body are well supplied with oxygen. This happens in order to prepare the body to protect itself.
