Ancient Egyptian Art
for Art Therapy

Ancient Egyptian art is often used in art therapy activities for stress reduction.

Art enthusiasts can enjoy reproductions of Egyptian papyrus art, Egyptian tomb art, ancient Egyptian paintings and other Egyptian art...

The ancient art of the Egyptians comes from the civilization living in the lower Nile Valley from 5000 BC to 300 AD.

Typically, the Egyptian artwork is very stylized and symbolic.

The Egyptians of that era emphasized life after death in their paintings and sculptures, and much of the art that has survived--was actually found in the tombs and monuments of people who lived at that time.

Ancient Egyptian art can be used for stress reduction in art therapy.

Symbolism plays an important part in ancient Egyptian art, as does religion. You will find many god and goddesses and animals that represent ideas or concepts.

Colors, as well, were very symbolic. Red skin represented youth and vitality. Yellow skin represented women or middle-aged men who worked indoors. Blue or gold signified divinity. Black meant power and royalty--and the fertility of the Nile valley.
